District reports facilities and safety upgrades; long-range roof and turf planning moves forward

Corey said materials for the Superior Middle School front entrance were expected to arrive the week after the meeting and that most work on Bridal (interior painting and tuckpointing) is complete. He described high-school classroom-floor restoration and maintenance approaches that should reduce future upkeep costs.
On safety, Corey said new door locks for middle and high schools have been ordered; the district is coordinating installation schedules and pursuing grant support through the city police department while also planning to use Title IV funds if needed. Gates for the Great Lakes playground are scheduled for installation July 27, and the district is updating playground fall protection at elementary schools.
Corey and finance staff discussed long-range facilities planning for middle-school roofs and sports-complex turf replacement. Administration said Fund 46 (long-term facilities) holds slightly over $5 million and that the board will consider bidding strategies in September, including joint bidding with nearby projects to reduce costs.
Board members praised custodial and project teams and asked administration to present funding and contract details at an upcoming meeting before any large capital commitment.
