Mason Consolidated Schools board approves 2026–27 tax rate, facility upgrade and multiple hires

The Mason Consolidated Schools Board of Education met July 8, 2026, in the Mason Senior High School IVN Room and approved a package of fiscal, facilities and personnel actions that the board said will keep operations steady heading into the new school year.
Board President Otting opened the meeting and the board approved the agenda after Otting noted that Action items B and C had been removed. The board then approved the recommended 2026–27 tax rate with no change from last year; the motion was made by England and supported by Fowler and carried 4-0.
The board also approved electrical upgrades for the middle school CTE shop. The contract was awarded to Laibe Electric at $18,730; England moved the recommendation, Fortner supported it, and the motion carried 4-0.
On personnel, the board approved hiring Rafal Kaczowka as a high school mathematics teacher at Step 4 BA, pending receipt of required certification and favorable reference, criminal history and background checks; that motion was moved by Fowler, supported by Fortner, and carried 4-0. The board approved an HR Specialist contract and an Accounting Assistant contract (motions moved by England and supported by Fowler), each approved by unanimous 4-0 votes.
Consent items including closed-session minutes and the June 2026 check register were approved earlier in the meeting on a motion by Fortner, supported by Fowler (motion carried 4-0). The meeting record shows no recorded votes against or abstentions; board members present and voting were England, Fortner, Fowler and Otting.
The board adjourned at 6:12 p.m. The next regularly scheduled meeting will be Wednesday, August 5, 2026 at 6:00 p.m. in the Mason Senior High School IVN Room.
