Resident urges ban on RV parking on residential streets after blocked driveway

During general public comment at the July 16 Mountlake Terrace City Council meeting, Dennis Soltis described an eight‑ to nine‑day episode in which an RV blocked his driveway and made exiting his property difficult. Soltis said he appreciated staff action to remove the vehicle and asked the council to consider an ordinance banning RV parking on residential streets, saying RVs rarely provide economic benefit to Mountlake Terrace and often park to access light rail or other services.

Mayor Woodard thanked Soltis for closing the loop by reporting the outcome and acknowledged the council values public comment. Later in the meeting under new business Councilmember Matsumoto Wright revisited the topic, noting that RV use patterns have changed—some people now live in RVs in the city—and that previous adjustments to overnight parking rules were made to balance vacation needs and neighborhood impacts. Council members agreed to discuss the matter further and to consider policy options that reflect both longtime owners and people experiencing vehicle‑based homelessness.
