Prince George County School Board appoints Dr. Douglas Wayne Lyle as superintendent

The Prince George County School Board appointed Dr. Douglas Wayne Lyle as division superintendent in a unanimous roll-call vote, with his term to begin Sept. 10, 2024, and to run through June 30, 2028. The board authorized the chair and clerk to execute an employment agreement as presented.

Dr. Douglas Wayne Lyle was sworn in at the meeting and thanked the board and community for the appointment. "I want to thank you for trusting me with the critical responsibility of being your superintendent," he said, and outlined priorities that include "increasing academic achievement for all students, recruiting and retaining a high-quality staff, providing safe and secure facilities, and cultivating a caring climate and culture." Board members and staff praised the superintendent-search process and community engagement that informed the selection. Several board members said surveys and public input were essential to shortlisting candidates and that they expected the new superintendent to build on the district's comprehensive plan.

The oath and brief remarks were followed by a period of recognitions and an opportunity for the public and staff to meet the new superintendent. The board recorded the appointment by roll call; no dissenting votes were reported.
