County staff presented the first reading of a revised Abandonment and Impoundment of Vehicles ordinance at the July meeting, outlining key changes and legal citations and posting the nine-page draft on the county website for public review.
Greg Seymour and the county attorney described the principal revisions: the previous draft allowed one untagged or uninsured vehicle on private property; the revision increases that allowance to two and adds a provision that more vehicles are permitted if they are at least 250 feet from a public right of way or property line and are not visible from public view. The county attorney cited compliance with OCGA provisions and the Georgia Abandoned Motor Vehicle Act during his reading.
The chair suspended the verbatim reading because the draft is posted online and the board will take a final vote at next month’s meeting. County staff asked the public to review the ordinance at www.lincolncountyga.gov and prepare comments for the second reading.
The changes were described as substantive revisions that the board had reviewed during a prior work session; staff said the ordinance had been reworked to allow additional, non‑visible vehicles under specified conditions and to clarify administration and enforcement responsibilities between community development and the sheriff’s department.
