Prince George schools remain fully accredited; district highlights SOL gains and student honors
Summary
District staff told the board all Prince George County Public Schools are fully accredited for 2023–24 and highlighted rising college/career readiness and several student and program recognitions.
Presenters reviewed 2023–24 SOL results and accreditation indicators and reported that every school in the division is fully accredited. Staff called out gains in biology (from a planned target to 81% pass rate) and continued strong performance in reading and some math measures; they noted areas needing attention, particularly secondary science and chronic absenteeism.
The presentation walked the board through indicator thresholds for levels 1, 2 and 3 and explained the graduation and completion index, dropout rate and the college/career/civic readiness metric (reported at 89% this year). Staff credited teachers and administrators for the improvements and pointed to division initiatives such as curriculum alignment, PLCs and partnerships with external consultants.
The board also recognized student achievements and local program success: two students placed at SkillsUSA state competition; Beta Club leaders highlighted fundraising and requested support to attend national competitions; the board congratulated the nominated student of the month and presented VSBA awards to board members.
