City Administrator Mike Gorman told the Valley City Council on March 9 that he received a request from Roger Bevington asking the city to assume labor responsibilities for maintaining Veterans Park. Gorman said labor is the primary cost driver and estimated total annual labor and materials at approximately $6,000.
Members discussed the long‑term preservation of the park and raised concerns about the VFW’s current financial stability. Councilors recommended continued conversations with the VFW to clarify what assistance it currently receives and to explore potential grant opportunities or outside funding before the city assumes ongoing maintenance responsibilities.
No formal motion was made to transfer maintenance to the city during the work session; council directed staff to continue discussions with the VFW and to investigate available funding or grant sources to support park maintenance if the city assumes labor duties.
