Board adds Beasley roofing to FY24 carryover request after debate over safety and technology priorities

Operations staff reported $107,569.44 already earmarked for roofing in the county fund and reiterated that roofing projects can be expensive; the complete Clements project estimate has grown to approximately $900,000 from an earlier low-$600,000 estimate.
After discussion, a motion to select the column that included the Beasley roofing project carried on a roll call vote. Board members requested staff to combine the division’s carryover funds and county roofing funds as appropriate when submitting the capital package to the Board of Supervisors. Staff said they would return to the county on April 8 with the requested plan and clarified that, if funding is secured, some roofing work could be rolled into the capital implementation in the coming fiscal year.
The board also discussed security equipment procurement tied to the capital plan (magnetometers/wands), noting that purchase timing and implementation logistics influenced how many sets would be bought and where they would be deployed.
Next steps: staff will take the Beasley-inclusive carryover column to the county Board of Supervisors at their April 8 meeting for appropriation approval and will report back to the school board on timing and implementation.
