Human Resources reported to the board on Feb. 10 that Prince George County Public Schools currently has 26 teacher vacancies: seven at the elementary level and 16 at the secondary level, with two secondary positions still lacking an identified solution.
Miss Huffman, presenting the staffing update, said the district has scheduled three on‑site job fairs this month and two next month, with additional dates reserved in April and May. She said a sign‑up link is live on the division website so applicants can reserve interview slots with division leaders who will conduct interviews on site.
"So currently we have 26 teacher vacancies," Miss Huffman said. She added that recruiting efforts include off‑site job fairs and continued incentives for FY26 — including early‑hire bonuses targeted at special‑education teachers, CTE roles and high‑need subjects such as math.
Miss Huffman also summarized an "intent to return" survey rolled out in January: 19 staff indicated they do not plan to return next year (10 retirements, eight family relocations and one leaving for employment outside education). She said principals will review transfer requests in February and complete the transfer process in March to prepare for reappointments.
Board members asked about job‑fair signups; Miss Huffman said nine people were scheduled for the upcoming Thursday and two for Feb. 22. The board thanked HR for the report and encouraged continued outreach to fill vacancies ahead of the next school year.
The board will receive updates as recruiting progresses and as principals finalize transfer and reappointment decisions.
