Board tables superintendent resignation and job-descriptions review; principal briefs board on child-welfare liaison and system transition

At the Nov. 17 Max School Board meeting the board discussed but did not accept a superintendent resignation and postponed action until the Dec. 16 meeting because no paper copy of the resignation letter was available.
The item appeared under new business; Superintendent Larry Sebastian raised the matter but no motion was made, and the board formally tabled the issue pending receipt of the written resignation. Separately, the board discussed proposed job descriptions and took no motion, choosing to solicit staff input and revisit the item in December.
In other administrative updates, K-12 Principal RobbiJo Morgan told the board the district will meet twice a year with Dakota Child Welfare per the legislative session. Morgan described the Child Safety Liaison Work Group, reporting procedures for neglect and abuse, and who to contact for reports. Morgan also said she will attend training in Bismarck on Nov. 18 on observations and evaluations.
Morgan updated the board on upcoming student activities (Math Meet, 'Pastries with a loved one' Nov. 20, choir at Festival of Trees Nov. 21, FFA district leadership event that brought 220 visitors and multiple Max FFA gold awards) and noted that the district’s student-information system will change: Infinite Campus will replace PowerSchool on July 1, 2026. Superintendent Larry Sebastian reported a grade-2 classroom needs a new heater motor and that G & R Controls completed a routine visit under its agreement.
