Franklin Public Schools board moves last student day up, authorizes disposal of obsolete materials

FRANKLIN, Neb. — At its regular meeting Monday night, the Franklin Public Schools District 506 Board of Education unanimously approved shortening the 2025–26 school year for students and authorized administrators to dispose of obsolete furniture, books, materials and equipment.
Board member Ryan Bonham moved to amend the 2025–2026 school year calendar “modifying the last day of school for the students to Friday, May 15, 2026,” and Board member Lori Cole seconded. The motion passed 6–0 (Michael Bartels, Ryan Bonham, Lori Cole, Erica Dorn, Derek Fouts and Harley Scott voting yea). The calendar change moves the student attendance end date five days earlier than the district’s previously approved May 20 date.
The board also approved the consent agenda, which included minutes of previous meetings and financial reports, claims and accounts. The consent agenda motion was made by Board member Ryan Bonham and seconded by Board member Derek Fouts and was adopted unanimously.
On a separate motion, Board member Harley Scott moved and Board member Erica Dorn seconded a motion to “authorize and direct the administrators or her designee to dispose of all obsolete furniture, books, materials, and equipment in the most favorable manner to the District in accordance with all laws, rules, and regulations pertaining to such disposal.” That motion likewise passed 6–0.
