Board hears state bill concerns that could change PRD and commercial zoning; CIP meeting planned

Secretary Dan Kane told the board that the state Legislature has been attaching previously dead bills to live bills and that two measures under consideration could affect local development rules. Kane said one proposal would significantly alter planned residential development (PRD) buffer rules and, as discussed, could permit measures that might allow up to 100 houses on a dead-end street; another bill would expand multifamily development allowances in commercial areas.
Shea Ramaker referenced HB1195 and said recent amendments could change how child daycare centers are treated in commercial districts. Kane said the Capital Improvements Program (CIP) committee will begin meeting soon as the board seeks a clearer understanding of needs and how funding proposals should be worded for warrant articles.
Board members did not take formal positions on state legislation during the meeting; members said they would continue to monitor developments and report back as the Legislature acts.
