Camden County elections board finds Richard Baird recall petition sufficient, two others short of threshold

During its June 22 special called meeting, the Camden County Board of Elections & Registration reviewed three recall petition applications originating from Woodbine.
Acting Elections Supervisor Rockney Carter told the board that the petitions for Councilor Phyllis Drummond and Mayor Kizzi Knight did not meet the 73-signature threshold required under the referenced code. By contrast, Carter reported that the petition for Councilman Richard Baird met the threshold with 118 vetted signatures.
Joe Stell moved, and Vernon Higgins seconded, a motion finding the Richard Baird application complete and meeting the statutory signature requirement; the motion carried unanimously. The board then voted unanimously to direct Acting Elections Supervisor Carter to issue recall petition forms for Richard Baird on the board's behalf.
No formal action was taken regarding the Drummond or Knight petitions because they failed to meet the signature threshold. The board took these steps under its administrative authority to review petition completeness and to authorize issuance of petition forms where the signature requirement is satisfied.
