Montreat council, committee to hold workshop on sign ordinance; P&Z encouraged to raise community concerns

"What they're proposing to do is that they want to have these workshops, which I think we're scheduled for May 1, where the council members will sit with the committee members, the subcommittee members, and go through it," the member said.
Members discussed outreach and preparation for the workshop, including soliciting issues from neighbors and the public and circulating the workshop time and materials in advance. That approach is intended to allow informal back-and-forth within public meeting rules and to reduce surprises on a council agenda.
Why it matters: Several commissioners said the sign ordinance is technically and legally complicated and benefits from close review before a council vote. The commission agreed the subcommittee and any PNC members attending should be prepared with specific community concerns and suggested staff circulate workshop details once confirmed.
