Truckee Regional Library design advances as community raises private gifts alongside Measure G bond

County library officials and the Friends of the Truckee Library presented a design and funding update for the new Truckee Regional Library.
Nick Wilczek, county library director, said the project moved through design development after a lengthy community engagement process that gathered nearly 4,000 inputs. The proposed site sits in the regional park facing Brockway Road and the design features a large community room, an expanded children's section and a patio with park views.
April Cole of the Friends of the Truckee Library summarized fundraising: Measure G, a bond measure placed on the Truckee regional ballot, passed with more than 72% of votes and is expected to contribute roughly $16–$19 million toward construction. Friends and partners are pursuing a diversified funding strategy with goals of $10 million in private philanthropy and $10 million in grants and agency funding. Cole said the nonprofit and its donors have raised nearly $11 million to date across private and grant buckets.
Project next steps include value engineering and completion of construction documents, agency review and contractor selection planned over the next year. Staff said they expect the project to be fully funded within about a year and targeted construction start in August 2027, subject to final cost and procurement processes.
Board members praised collaboration among the county, town of Truckee and Friends of the Library and thanked fundraisers and volunteers. No formal action beyond acceptance of the report was required and the board voted to accept the presentation.
