Ridgway council adopts updated Ouray County Community Wildfire Protection Plan

Ridgway’s Town Council voted unanimously May 14 to adopt the updated Ouray County Community Wildfire Protection Plan.
Ouray County Emergency Manager Glenn Boyd presented the plan update, noting the previous plan dated to June 2011 and that a contractor funded by federal grants led a multi-agency effort including the Town, County, City of Ouray, U.S. Forest Service and Bureau of Land Management. Boyd described planning goals that consider watershed protection, fuel treatment and actionable tasks for stakeholders.
Councilors engaged with Boyd on aspects of the plan before Councilor Schuyler moved to adopt it; Councilor Montague seconded and the motion carried unanimously.
The adoption integrates Ridgway into the countywide approach to wildfire mitigation and sets the planning framework for future fuel treatments and watershed-focused actions. No implementation schedule was specified in the minutes.
