Cusseta‑Chattahoochee board confirms three elections appointments, adopts 2025 meeting and holiday calendars, defers sheriff vehicle purchase

The Unified Government of Cusseta‑Chattahoochee County Board of Commissioners on Dec. 3 confirmed three appointments to the county Board of Elections, adopted its 2025 meeting calendar and employee holiday schedule, and discussed several operational items that were deferred for further review.
The board approved resolutions appointing Nancy Hoard to the Board of Elections (term Jan. 1, 2025–Dec. 31, 2028), Valerie Lassiter (term Jan. 1, 2025–Dec. 31, 2026) and Crystal Walker (term Jan. 1, 2025–Dec. 31, 2028). The minutes record motions to approve each appointment; Commissioner Biddle recused himself from the vote on one appointment as noted in the minutes.
On procedural business the commission adopted its 2025 meeting calendar and a 2025 employee holiday calendar. A motion to set work sessions at 6 p.m. failed; the board later approved a 9 a.m. monthly work‑session schedule on a tie‑breaking vote by Chairman Charles Coffey.
County Attorney Bin (Binford) Minter told the board he has joined a new firm (Clark Hill) and that his hourly rate will increase to $325 starting Jan. 1, 2025; he recommended the commission formalize the engagement in a vote. The minutes record his announcement but do not show a vote on the engagement or rate at the Dec. 3 meeting.
Commissioners also discussed a potential sheriff vehicle purchase. County Manager Thomas Weaver provided an inventory of sheriff vehicles (Tahoe; 2021, 2019 and 2018 Ford F‑150s; 2021 and 2019 Dodge Chargers; three 2022 interceptors; plus a 2021 Explorer under replacement consideration) and noted seven sworn positions (five deputies, one vacancy, one sheriff). Amanda Beaver (who spoke from the sheriff’s office during the work session) said staffing is not at full strength and clarified which vehicles the department currently operates. The commission agreed the current need did not justify an immediate replacement and left the vehicle request for further review at a work session.
A Superior Court staffing request (an email from Tami Wade seeking $13,500) was discussed in the Dec. 23 work session materials but was not added to the Dec. 3 agenda for final action. The board entered executive session at 7:43 p.m. to discuss legal matters and reconvened at 8:08 p.m.; no votes were taken during the closed session, the minutes state.
The board’s next regular meeting is recorded as Jan. 7, 2025.
