Chattahoochee County approves FY2025 CDBG application and pledges $47,500 match

The Chattahoochee County Commission voted unanimously on March 4 to authorize filing a Fiscal Year 2025 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) application with the Georgia Department of Community Affairs for a community facilities program in an amount not to exceed $1,000,000. The board also approved obligating $47,500 from county funds to serve as match and leverage if the grant is awarded.
Commissioner Jason Frost moved to approve the resolution authorizing the filing of the CDBG application; Commissioner Gerald Douglas seconded and the motion passed unanimously. Commissioner Douglas then moved to obligate the $47,500 as the county match; Commissioner Frost seconded and that motion also passed unanimously.
The board’s packet includes a Letter of Agreement with the River Valley Regional Commission, which the county will use to prepare the application. The River Valley Regional Commission will carry out application tasks including data collection, preliminary environmental and historic reviews, cost estimating, public hearings and submission. The agreement states the RC will charge a fee to provide program implementation and technical assistance if the grant is awarded; the county will also pay a $750 application preparation fee for a new application (or $500 for a rewrite) to defray RC costs.
County Clerk Lisa Bickel attested the resolution; the board’s votes were recorded as unanimous. The Commission directed the chair to execute required application documents and to provide additional information to the Georgia Department of Community Affairs as requested.
If awarded, the grant would fund community facility improvements in Chattahoochee County; specific project sites and budgets were not included in the March 4 motion and would be established during grant development if the application is successful. The commission’s obligation of $47,500 is contingent on receipt of the grant and, per the resolution, will be documented as required by the Department of Community Affairs.
