Cusseta–Chattahoochee commission reappoints tax assessors, approves appointments and tables several items
Summary
On Oct. 1 the commission unanimously reappointed two members to the tax assessors board, appointed the county manager to the Two Rivers Regional Commission, approved several consent items and tabled agenda items including use of Old City Hall by the Board of Education and a cardboard compactor at the recycling center.
The Cusseta–Chattahoochee County Commission on Oct. 1 approved several routine and administrative items, reappointed two tax-assessor members and tabled multiple agenda items for further review.
The commission unanimously reappointed James Wiehe to Post 5 and Ken Vanhorn to Post 4 on the Board of Tax Assessors for terms through Dec. 1, 2028. Commissioner Damon Hoyte moved to reappoint Wiehe; Commissioner Jason Frost seconded. Commissioner Gerald Douglas moved to reappoint Vanhorn; Commissioner Hoyte seconded. The transcript records unanimous votes among commissioners present (Chairman Charles Coffey, Commissioners Douglas, Hoyte and Frost; Vice Chairman Timothy Biddle was absent).
The board also approved a resolution appointing County Manager Thomas Weaver to the Two Rivers Regional Commission to fill a vacancy through Dec. 31, 2025; that motion carried unanimously. Other approved items included a refund for Beverly Riley and approval to purchase one vehicle for board-of-commission use while tabling two sheriff/EMA vehicle purchases pending SPLOST outcomes.
Several items were tabled for additional consideration: a request by the Board of Education to use Old City Hall was tabled until the November meeting; a proposal for a cardboard compactor at the recycling center was tabled to the next work session; the cemetery bylaws were discussed and tabled pending further review by county counsel and the cemetery committee; and the Board of Elections policy will receive a second public reading at a work session before final action.
The commission also voted to reschedule the November regular meeting to Nov. 12 at 9:00 a.m. and moved into executive session at 6:57 p.m. to discuss personnel and legal matters, reconvening at 7:44 p.m. with no votes taken in closed session.
