County begins audit of two-can garbage accounts; Recycle Center allows business accounts, cardboard compactor decision tabled

At the Sept. 3 meeting County Manager Thomas Weaver told commissioners the county has started auditing garbage accounts with two trash cans and identified 76 accounts being billed for an extra can that is not paid for. Staff will contact account holders to determine whether the extra can results from tenants moving out without returning cans or from billing errors.
During the same agenda staff presented several recycle‑center items. The Commission voted unanimously to allow businesses to establish accounts at the county recycle center after a motion by Commissioner Jason Frost and a second by Commissioner Gerald Douglas. A proposal to purchase or install a cardboard compactor was discussed but tabled for further review; Commissioner Frost moved to table the compactor purchase until the next work session and the motion passed unanimously.
Commission discussion did not record an implementation timetable for returning billing accounts to correct status; County Manager Weaver or the public works/waste department will handle outreach to affected accounts and report back at a future meeting.
