Rockport committee recommends Tom Flaherty for Essex North Shore Tech seat

The Rockport School Committee on Monday voted to recommend Tom Flaherty as the town’s member on the Essex North Shore Agricultural & Technical School committee. Flaherty, a Rockport resident who said his daughter attends Rockport High School, described legal and employment-law experience that he told the committee would be helpful on personnel and policy matters.
The committee moved to consider the appointment out of order, invited Flaherty to introduce himself and asked about his interest in outreach and committee service. Flaherty said he had spoken with current personnel-committee members at Essex Tech and expected to serve on that subcommittee if appointed. He said he would attend meetings at least once a month and could act as a liaison to Rockport.
Amy Oakes moved to recommend Flaherty’s appointment; Chair Kathy Riley seconded. The committee voted in favor and Superintendent Mark Branko said the recommendation will be forwarded to the Rockport town moderator, who has the authority under Essex Tech bylaws to make the official appointment.
The committee did not take public comment on the recommendation during the vote. No formal objections were recorded; the moderator will make the appointment in accordance with the district’s bylaws.
