The Rockport School Committee approved an out‑of‑state trip for five middle‑school students to attend a leadership conference at Southern New Hampshire University and received a facilities update on roof repairs.
Superintendent Mark Branko outlined the trip: two chaperones, travel by district minibus, five student delegates selected by the conference rules and registration costs covered by the student council. The committee voted to approve the trip.
Branko then provided an update on roof and waterproofing work. He said Tremco completed exterior wall waterproofing and a moisture analysis for sections of the middle‑high school and that one July project cost "just over $5,000," which the district covered and which included a 10‑year warranty. Additional moisture testing has been done in August and September; Tremco will submit a final report and cost estimate to town hall, which will put the job out to bid and select a vendor. Branko said the full repair contract is expected to include a 20‑year warranty but cautioned that procurement and scheduling mean those repairs will not be immediate.
In the interim staff continue temporary measures (buckets, mops and patching). Branko described the work as necessary to maintain existing buildings and said the district will pursue longer‑term fixes through the town procurement process.
Next steps: Tremco to deliver a final cost estimate to town hall; town will put the job out to bid and schedule repairs with the selected vendor.
