Business manager June Ciafilippo presented the district's October 1 enrollment snapshot and the FY24 fiscal-year-end results. She said the district's October 1 enrollment stands at 654 students, slightly above the NESDAC projection included in the budget materials.
Ciafilippo told the committee that reconciliation with the town's books produced a favorable position: a roughly $200,000 circuit-breaker payment posted by the town after July 1 increased reserves and left the district with almost $2.0 million in reserves heading into the year. "That number matches up with the town's books," she said, noting that the additional payment provided added cushion for unexpected summer projects and personnel changes.
Committee members cautioned that enrollment declines would reduce certain revenues — including school choice and circuit-breaker reimbursements for special education — and urged prudence. Ciafilippo said the district will continue to use updated enrollment figures and NASDAC projections when developing the budget and will return with periodic updates.
The committee thanked financial staff for the work closing FY24 and asked administrators to continue monitoring enrolment trends and potential budget impacts ahead of the next budget cycle.
