The Middletown Insurance and Claims Committee voted Jan. 6 to adopt a bimonthly meeting schedule for 2026, holding meetings on the first Tuesday at 6 p.m. in a virtual format.
The decision followed a presentation from the committee chair, who said the city’s claims volume “has gone down precipitously,” and noted that the schedule must be filed under state open-meeting requirements by the end of the month. Committee members discussed options including monthly, bimonthly and quarterly meetings and settled on an every-other-month cadence for January 2026 through January 2027.
Committee member (S3) made the motion to approve the bimonthly schedule and Committee member (S1) seconded it; the chair called for the ayes and the motion passed. The chair said the office will schedule around known conflicts such as election day and will convene special meetings if more business arises.
The committee chair framed the change as a response to lighter workload from fewer pending claims and said staff will notify members if a special meeting or additional session is needed. The committee had no voting items beyond the schedule on Jan. 6 and will next expect to meet in March unless special circumstances arise.
