Middletown volunteer committee adjourns after failing to reach quorum

The Middletown volunteer committee met briefly on the evening of the scheduled meeting but formally adjourned after officials confirmed they did not have a quorum.

The Chair said the committee had sent a second reminder to members and suggested the group consider canceling its December meeting because holiday schedules made attendance difficult. "We don't have a quorum," the Chair said, noting one member, Sanji, had reported being out of town.

Committee members exchanged concerns about heavy meeting schedules and the burden of overlapping commitments. One member described multiple meetings and mandatory training modules in a single week, and another said they sometimes prefer to prepare minutes themselves because automated transcripts often mis-render words.

The members discussed transcription options, naming automated products such as Soarscribe, but emphasized that someone still must proof and finalize minutes before distribution. The Chair said paying for professional transcription is an option but acknowledged budget constraints.

The Chair also referenced staffing disruptions at Middletown Housing, saying "poor Linda Grama from Middletown Housing" was dealing with changes in management that made attendance difficult. Members did not take any formal actions on housing or other agenda items because no quorum was present.

With no business conducted, members agreed to adjourn for the evening. A committee member said, "We'll officially adjourn for tonight and look forward to our next meeting, hopefully, after the holidays." The Chair confirmed the committee's next scheduled meeting is Jan. 21.

Because no votes or formal decisions were recorded, the committee will carry outstanding agenda items to its next meeting when a quorum is present.
