Board receives department updates on aquatics, golf, parks and rec center timeline

Staff presented a series of departmental updates covering aquatics, golf and athletic fields, parks operations and the recreation center timeline.
Alex Meyers reported hiring and training for lifeguards and instructors is underway and that lifeguard classes are in progress to prepare for summer. Meyers said HVAC issues at aquatic facilities are being addressed.
Reporting for Kevin Vos, Meyers said Bos Landen Golf Course is planned to open in March depending on weather; some greens remain frozen and staff expect an opening closer to spring break if conditions persist. Spencer Winzenried said the ice rink is running but has closed on warm days because the chiller cannot maintain ice when temperatures exceed about 60 degrees. Staff are developing the spring schedule for Tulip Time and mowing.
Winzenried said he is exploring potential trail extensions to connect existing trails to downtown. On the recreation center, Winzenried said construction is progressing with a possible September 2027 opening; staff solicited suggestions for events to host once the facility opens.
The board adjourned after the updates; the next meeting is scheduled for April 17, 2026, at noon in room 204 of the Community Center.
