Red Cedar director says April drew hundreds; museum readies Route 66 celebration and July locomotive stop

Kelly said the museum hosted regular car-club visits, saw over 400 people at a Missouri Route 66 Association event, and received television crews from STLTV and KY3. "April was pretty busy... we had over 400 people that day," Kelly said, summarizing recent outreach and visits.
Upcoming items include a speaker series, bus tours, a children’s entrepreneur day, a Route 66 quilt exhibit arriving in late June, multiple car cruises, and a planned 15-minute whistle stop by a 'Big Boy' steam locomotive on July 20. Kelly urged board members to staff a tent at high-traffic times to talk about local history and keep visitors on-site longer.
Members reported ongoing digitization of historical photos and documents, added that community volunteers are contributing scanned materials, and suggested merchandise (postcards, prints and calendars) that reflect local history could both serve visitors and raise funds.
Kelly also announced the recent death of longtime contributor Sue Reed and the board expressed condolences.
The board did not take formal votes related to event programming at the meeting; staff were asked to continue planning and to coordinate volunteer coverage for the upcoming major events.
