Several members said they wanted to be transparent with the sheriff's department and recommended inviting the sheriff or a representative to discuss the proposed changes before voting. Committee member S4 said he would prefer to consult with the sheriff so the department was not "thrown off guard." The council moved to table the resolution to allow the sheriff’s office and financial staff to review and report back; that motion was seconded and carried by voice vote.
The council also discussed making a first-reading entry in the record so the public would be informed of the pending change; staff were directed to provide the related list of commissary expenditures to any requester.
