Silver Lake council approves minutes, excuses two absences and accepts financial reports

At its June 15 meeting, the Village of Silver Lake council approved the minutes from its June 1 meeting, excused two absences and accepted routine financial reports.
Councilmember Jim Kurtz moved to excuse the absences of Phil Kaplan and Chris Scott; Suzanne Garrett seconded and all were in favor. Council President Matt Plesich asked for corrections to the June 1 minutes; none were offered and he signed the minutes as submitted.
Finance and Appropriations chair Suzanne Garrett asked whether there were questions about the check report or the statement of cash. Clerk-Treasurer Sean Housley said May is closed and reconciled; one engineering invoice for the Silver Lake Boulevard sewer line could not be processed before the month closed but has since been paid. Ms. Garrett moved to accept the check report dated 6/30/26 and the statement of cash dated 5/31/26; Mr. Kurtz seconded and the motion carried unanimously.
Housley also told council that village sewage-treatment costs increased 5% on April 1 under Akron's guidelines and that RITA refunded more than $14,000 related to a 2025 retainer adjustment. Mayor Therese Dunphy briefly noted ongoing water-supply discussions with Cuyahoga Falls and Akron but declined to provide details. Council generally agreed that meetings with no legislation or discussion topics are likely not necessary going forward. The council scheduled its next regular meeting for Monday, July 6, 2026, at 7 p.m.
