Sewer repairs close part of Dover Road; council told legislation to cover costs will follow

South Dover Road was closed for several days while crews worked on a sanitary sewer line, Council heard Monday.
Police Chief Steve Justice told the Village of Silver Lake council that the closure was necessary to allow repairs. Service Director Ben Gregory said contractor H.M. Miller is working on the sanitary sewer line in the Dover Road area, and Mayor Therese Dunphy told council that legislation will be forthcoming to cover the cost of the repair.
Clerk-Treasurer Sean Housley noted budgetary pressures related to sewage treatment and county billing: village sewage-treatment costs rose 5% effective April 1 under Akron's guidelines, and Summit County billed the village for work through the end of April as the county caught up on its invoicing. Housley also said one engineering invoice for the Silver Lake Boulevard sewer line was processed after May close and has since been paid.
Council members discussed safety measures related to the closure; Councilmember Jim Kurtz thanked the Police Department for parking at various locations along Route 59 to help with visibility and traffic control. Mayor Dunphy said she expects legislation to be prepared for council consideration addressing repair costs but did not provide further fiscal details at the meeting.
The service director also answered a question from Mrs. Betsy Meyer about white flags in the Arboretum, explaining they mark the proposed route for a library storybook-walk trail tied to America 250 events.
