The Galesburg City Council on July 7 approved several administrative and routine actions alongside larger items on the agenda.
Consumers Credit Union presentation and approval: Chris Rusche described an ACH and tax-collection service that would cost the city no additional fees and would allow nonmembers to use the service with an authorization form. Council approved the program by roll-call vote.
Fees and refunds: The council voted unanimously to refund Milestone Senior Services the $450 fee for a wheelchair ramp. Councilors also debated and then set a new variance fee at $125 after proposals ranged from $50 to $150.
Ordinance 305: The council adopted Ordinance 305 (housing diversity) on a motion by Carol Wortinger; the planning commission had recommended the ordinance to ensure zoning matches the city's master plan. No public comment was made on the ordinance during the hearing.
Meeting schedule: Because the clerk's election duties conflicted with the regularly scheduled date, the council moved the August meeting to Aug. 11.
Ceremonial action: Council adopted Resolution 20250707 honoring former council member Judy Lemon. Members paid tribute and the resolution passed unanimously.
What happens next: Staff will implement the ACH tax-collection setup, issue the refund to Milestone Senior Services, and incorporate the new variance fee into fee schedules.
