Tony said utility extensions are planned for 2026–2028 and specifically called out the Rice Lake Road Corridor project as needing design and construction work to ensure project success. Tony and staff said several design and construction tasks remain for the awarded bonding portions of the project and that timelines will be refined in the design phase.
On broadband, Tony said city staff met with Joe from CTC, who told them CTC has been awarded a federal grant to expand fiber to Rice Lake areas that currently lack high-speed service; no construction timeline has been established yet. Staff said they will continue coordinating with providers to extend access to remaining homes and businesses.
The council approved several routine financial items during the meeting: the consent agenda (minutes and claims), executed claims pulled from consent (approved), and a budgeted purchase of a zero-turn mower (on state contract). Staff also reported records-request workload and associated staff hours and costs for public-data requests processed in June.
A voluntary trunk-fee assessment (assessment number 39) was presented as a first reading; staff clarified the assessment is voluntary and will return for action at a future meeting when required steps are complete.
