The Rice Lake City Council voted to approve an ordinance rezoning 4989 Westlake Road to Commercial South after a staff presentation and brief council discussion.
Tony, city staff, said the Planning Commission held a public hearing May 19 and recommended approval: the parcel currently contains a commercial operation (the pallet yard) while other portions remained classified residential; rezoning the full parcel will allow the business to expand without repeated spot rezonings. Tony explained Commercial South is a service-oriented commercial designation that aligns with the city's future land-use map.
Councilors discussed consistency with the comp plan and confirmed the change brings the parcel into compliance with long-standing land-use patterns. A council member moved to approve ordinance 22-5 (amendment to the zoning map), a second was given, and the motion passed by voice vote.
The ordinance passed as a local zoning action; the council did not attach special conditions to the rezoning during the meeting. Staff said the change will facilitate planned extensions to the business yard and reduce future permit complications from operating split-zoned parcels.
Because this was an ordinance vote, the action will be incorporated into the city's zoning map and referenced in future permitting and land-use reviews.
