The Diamondville Town Council met on Jan. 19, 2026, and approved multiple municipal code changes, renewed three liquor licenses for 2026–2027, updated personnel job descriptions, and confirmed three mayoral appointments.
Councilmember Robert Sawaya moved to approve on second reading Ordinance 493, which the minutes describe as amending Chapter 8.15 (Building Permits) to establish building permit term limits and require compliance with applicable local, state and federal laws. The motion was seconded and, according to the minutes, 'all voted aye,' and the ordinance carried.
The council also approved on second reading Ordinance 494, described in the minutes as amending Chapter 11.30 (Fees) to remove the fees section from the town code and provide that all fees be established instead by separate resolution of the governing body. Councilmember Sherrol Sloan moved to proceed with amending Ordinance 10.40.020 to remove the conditional-use permit requirement for mobile home parks in R-2 and commercial zones; that motion also carried with 'all voted aye.'
The governing body approved updated personnel job descriptions, including adding a Public Works Employee description, and directed staff to prepare a resolution updating the Employee Policy Handbook. The minutes note that a Title 1 review draft was presented and that further review will continue at the Feb. 16, 2026, council meeting.
In New Business, Councilmember Nicole Petersen moved to approve 2026–2027 liquor license renewals for Wagner Enterprises, Inc., DBA Wagner Chevron; Luigi’s Supper Club; and Our Place 777 LLC. The motion carried with 'all voted aye.' The council briefly discussed plans for the town’s 250th Semiquincentennial Celebration, titled 'From Independence to Identity.'
Mayor Eric Backman announced three appointments for 2026: Amy Bulter as Building Inspector, James Sanderson of Sanderson Law Office as Town Attorney, and Thayne Petersen as Municipal Court Judge. The minutes record each appointment as carried unanimously.
The council entered an executive session at 6:47 p.m. for personnel reasons and reconvened at 7:19 p.m.; the minutes state 'No Action Taken.'
Mayor Backman requested that the council consider supporting the Oyster Ridge Music Festival and place that request on the next agenda. The meeting adjourned at 7:21 p.m.
The minutes cited above are the council’s official record of actions and do not include individual roll-call tallies; where the minutes record 'all voted aye,' individual member votes were not specified.
