The Lauderhill City Commission on July 18 approved seven resolutions imposing special assessments and service-area charges for fiscal year 2027, voting 4-0 on each measure.
The city attorney read each resolution at the start of the 5:02 p.m. public hearing, and the commission moved, opened and closed the public comment period with no speakers on the items before recording unanimous votes.
City Manager (staff) provided the primary clarification for several items, saying the Safe Neighborhood Improvement Districts are voter-approved districts that self-impose assessments to fund local improvements recommended by the district advisory board. He corrected a typo appearing on the meeting agenda, stating, “They will pay an additional $150 plus 1 mill” for the Habitat Safe Neighborhood district — the agenda had shown $125. The manager also noted that advisory-board recommendations are overseen by staff liaisons identified in the meeting as Zach and Courtney and then forwarded to the commission for final approval.
Votes at a glance - Item 1 (Habitat Safe Neighborhood Improvement District): established a $150 per-parcel non-ad valorem assessment plus a 1-mill levy based on taxable assessed value to fund approved SND improvements. Approved 4-0. - Item 6 (Garbage, refuse and recycling service in the same areas): reimposed non-ad valorem assessments to cover service provider costs. Approved 4-0. - Item 7 (Fire rescue assessment): adopted a method to assess and determine FY2027 fire-rescue charges for properties within the city; effective beginning the fiscal year starting 10/01/2026. Approved 4-0.
Commission procedure and next steps Each resolution was read by the city attorney and moved with a second; the commission opened and then closed the public-comment period for each item with no members of the public speaking on these measures. In the absence of amendments or recorded dissent, all measures were adopted by unanimous recorded votes. The commission adjourned after completing the listed items.
What to watch for These assessments and levies will appear on property tax notices or be collected via the city’s non-ad valorem assessment process as described in the approved resolutions. The city manager indicated advisory-board recommendations will determine specific project-level uses of district funds and that those recommendations return to the commission for approval.
