Finance Officer and Town Clerk L. Spohr said the additional costs were driven by cutting and repairing sidewalk drains, removing the existing waterproofing barrier, additional masonry repairs to the foundation and structural brickwork, and removal of an 8‑foot concrete platform. Officials also confirmed that mold remediation was completed and that the library sign was repainted and new awnings installed.
In a separate finance update, Spohr reviewed July financials and said LOST (local option sales tax) increased compared with July 2023, with LOST year‑to‑date up 7.60%. Spohr reported June 2023 SPLOST receipts were up 1.25% compared with the 2017 SPLOST period and that year‑to‑date 2023 SPLOST is up 2.43% compared with the prior 2017 SPLOST period.
Why it matters: Facility repairs finished and required additional funds; at the same time, sales tax revenues show modest growth, which affects the town’s near‑term operating and capital outlook.
