M. Ungaro said the Parks Director and the Brooks Area Recreation group have discussed upgrading paths and signage at Aubrey Evans Park because many residents are unfamiliar with the site. Councilors Langford and Britt agreed to assist M. Ungaro and D. Holliman in drafting wording; once wording is prepared it will be brought back to the council for formal approval.
In Planning and Zoning news, M. Ungaro reported that a commercial building permit was issued for 171 Price Rd for a dog kennel facility with about 10 dog runs and space for up to 10 cats. Council Member Scott Israel said his principal concern is nighttime barking if animals are let out in the evening. M. Ungaro said he will ask the kennel owners about their evening procedures and will remind them of the town’s noise ordinance; no council vote was required because the permit complied with the town’s zoning ordinance.
Mayor Langford raised questions about cemetery hours and access; M. Ungaro said the cemetery is open dawn to dusk and that access via the driveway is chained during Liberty Tech events after attendees were observed parking on grave markers. The chain is removed after events; M. Ungaro will investigate signage to make the restriction clearer during events.
Other community updates included a successful parade with 22 floats and the Opening Day market; EMC completed underground power work at the park and a septic permit for park facilities is pending county approval. The Brooks Chapel sustained floor damage when a renter moved a piano; the damaged area is scheduled for refinishing and the piano will be professionally repositioned.
What’s next: proposed park-sign wording will return for council approval, the town manager will follow up with kennel owners about evening procedures and remind them of noise rules, and staff will explore signage to clarify cemetery closures during events.
