Lower Heidelberg supervisors approve routine purchases, set fall pickup dates

Lower Heidelberg Township supervisors approved several routine purchases and operational dates at their Sept. 11, 2024, business meeting.
Chairperson Chip Bilger presided over the meeting. Vice Chair Cheryl Johnson and Supervisor Paul Prutzman voted with Bilger to approve motions that included a $39,295 estimate to replace the township building air-conditioning unit, a $6,639 purchase of a fiberglass extension for the Spring Township meter manhole, and a $6,520.50 centerline milling contract for Papermill Road. All motions were moved and seconded by members present and passed unanimously.
The approvals were procedural and noncontroversial. The board also approved the consent agenda, which included the treasurer’s report, the minutes from the Aug. 19 meeting and the list of bills paid in August.
In departmental updates, Fire Commissioner Jared Renshaw presented a PowerPoint and reported there were 139 fire calls in August. Police Chief Christopher Stouch presented the department’s August activity report; the minutes record the report but do not list detailed incident counts. Maria Long, the library director, presented a funding request letter for 2025; the minutes note the request was presented but do not specify the requested amount.
The township announced operational schedules: organic waste pickup is set for Oct. 7–9, 2024, and fall leaf pickup is scheduled for the week of Oct. 14, 2024. Solicitor Andrew Bellwoar told the board that the Thun Final Plan will be considered for approval at the October meeting and that the Papermill Estates letter of credit should be renewed soon.
The board adjourned at 8:10 p.m. The next workshop is scheduled for Oct. 16, 2024, at 7:00 p.m., and the next regular Board of Supervisors meeting is set for Oct. 21, 2024, at 7:00 p.m.
