Pierce board to seek resident input on golf-cart rules; considers lowering sidewalk tree-clearance requirement

At the June 8 meeting the Board of Trustees discussed whether to permit golf-cart use in town streets. Staff memos from R. Shippy (Code Enforcement) and Town Attorney James Godbold warned of potential enforcement difficulties should the town adopt new golf-cart regulations. Trustee Charles Dixon suggested asking residents their opinion via ballot language, including information in the monthly newsletter and on the back of water bills; trustees agreed to add the item to next month's agenda to gather resident feedback before any formal change.
Code Enforcement (R. Shippy) also proposed changing the required lateral clearance of trees over sidewalks from 13 feet to 8 feet on the sidewalk side to improve maintenance clarity; the board agreed to place that proposal on next month's agenda for additional study.
No formal votes were taken on either policy during the meeting; trustees directed staff to post notices and solicit public input ahead of the next meeting.
