Juneau public-safety reports: police, EMS and fire deliver May stats; storm damage report given

At the June 25 meeting the Juneau Public Safety Committee received monthly reports from police, EMS and fire for May 2026 and heard an emergency-government update on recent storm damage.
Police Chief Dave Beal distributed the May police report and told the committee that National Night Out is scheduled for Aug. 4 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. He said he had explored changing the format of the monthly report to capture additional items but determined that doing so would require listing arrested persons or officer names; the committee concluded the current report format is sufficient. Chief Beal also noted the department will look to replace the 2012 Ford Taurus squad, which had 139,484 miles at the time of the report.
EMS reported 23 calls for May 2026. Committee members were told EMS membership is working on options to increase on-call pay for on-call members; the group is still gathering information and no pay changes were adopted at the meeting.
The Fire Department reported five calls for May 2026. Under Emergency Government Director business, Police Chief Beal reported recent storm damage: there were no power outages reported, but some trees suffered damage and some residences sustained damage when trees fell into them.
