Route 101 manhole contractor stalls; board weighs alternate bidder

Because the awarded bidder is the only bidder, the selectmen discussed options. Will Coutts offered to perform the work within the required timeframe and to meet NHDOT's specifications, and the board asked Town Administrator Ellen Smith to consult the town attorney about next steps and the contractor's failure to comply with bid terms.
No formal action to rescind the award or hire an alternate contractor was recorded at the meeting; the board's next steps are legal review and then a possible reauthorization or rebid depending on counsel's advice.
