Doniphan-Trumbull board discusses facility planning, student behavior supports and policy updates

The Doniphan-Trumbull Public Schools Board of Education on Feb. 12 reviewed ongoing planning and program matters, including facility planning, student behavior supports, administrator reports and possible policy updates.
Superintendent Dr. Jeremy Braden provided an update on master facility planning concepts and public communication following recent data collection, and the board continued discussion about next steps for facility improvement planning. Ms. Niles, the district's Special Education Director and Early Childhood lead, presented on the growing costs of increasingly disruptive student behaviors — noting expense drivers such as additional training, staff time diverted from other duties, lost instructional time for other students, and impacts on classified staff retention.
Administrators (Secondary Principal Ms. Goracke, Elementary Principal Mr. Mogilefsky and Activities Director Ms. Kuhlmann) offered building-level updates and brief celebrations. Dr. Braden also reviewed possible upcoming board policy updates and pending legislation; the board discussed Board Policy 5105 (Drug, Nicotine & Alcohol Testing), including the prospect of screening for nicotine under future policy revisions. The board reviewed options for the 2026–2027 academic calendar but did not adopt a final calendar at the meeting.
The board noted the audit report for the 2024–2025 school year from Dana Cole & Associates did not arrive in time for review and acceptance; therefore, no vote on the audit was recorded.
Board members did not indicate formal next steps in the public minutes beyond continuing review and placing items on future agendas.
