Superintendent reports near-complete steel on new Carolyn Small School, track RFPs and regional collaboration plans with GPCOG

Superintendent Jeff told the RSU 51/MSAD 51 school board that major campus projects are progressing and that multiple infrastructure items remain in active procurement.
On the One Campus program, Jeff said the Carolyn Small School steel is nearly complete: "About 99% of the steel is now completed," and concrete work is substantially done. He reported the SRRF science-wing HVAC and ceiling replacements at the high school are underway, the cafeteria and gym roof sections remain, and a retaining wall abutting the track has largely been replaced. Jeff also said RFPs for the intercom are due July 20 and that RFPs for track replacement will be issued on the 20th of the month.
Board members asked operational questions: Jeff said the district has not picked up new bus drivers recently and was down about two drivers for much of last year, though some drivers are expected to return in the fall. When asked how construction photos were taken, Jeff said the district uses a drone and a rooftop camera that captures progress images for social media and public updates.
Jeff described a regional meeting being organized and facilitated by the Greater Portland Council of Governments (GPCOG) to explore shared services and cost-sharing across neighboring towns and districts. He said the meeting's early goal is to be a "gatekeeper meeting" to determine whether specific collaborative steps (committees or focus groups) should follow; topics discussed for the meeting include pre-K implementation and regional finance strategies to try to reduce local tax burdens.
Jeff also noted social-media efforts to highlight retirements and years of service and reminded the board that the fiscal-year audit for the year ending June 30, 2025, is posted on the finance page. Chair Kim also reminded members to complete FOIA training before the new year.
