The RSU 51/MSAD 51 school board approved four professional positions brought forward by Superintendent Jeff, fulfilling a statutory requirement that teachers and administrators be presented to the board.
Jeff described each opening: a GMS 4'5 special-education case manager to replace a resignation (two applicants, one interviewed), a 60% social-studies position at Greeley High School with 17 applicants and four interviews, a GMS 6'8 physical-education position with 31 applicants and five interviews, and a Grade 2 opening at MIW created by an internal transfer that attracted 22 applicants. Jeff noted that in some hiring cases the committee may exercise discretion not to interview candidates who do not meet minimum qualifications.
A board member asked why a second applicant for the special-education position was not interviewed; Jeff said interview decisions are at the hiring committee's discretion. Another board member confirmed that exit interviews and a feedback form are offered to departing staff; Jeff said those are optional and the collected information is reviewed by administration.
Chair Kim called for a vote on approving the four positions as presented; the motion was seconded and passed by voice vote. No individual roll-call tallies were recorded in the transcript.
The board approved the hires with the understanding that additional vacancies may come forward in August as administrators continue hiring over the summer. Jeff said hiring committees will continue to convene to screen candidates and make recommendations to the board.
