Maurice River Committee urges NJDOC staffing, approves grant submittals and other resolutions

Resolution No. 82-2026 formally urges the New Jersey Department of Corrections not to remove corrections officers from guard towers at Bayside State Prison, saying the committee is "gravely concerned" that such action could increase the risk of inmate escapes and jeopardize township safety. The resolution requests ongoing communication from NJDOC; no NJDOC representative responded at the meeting.
The committee endorsed an addendum to the township Housing Element and Fair Share Plan (Resolution No. 83-2026) and approved Resolution No. 81-2026 backing a Sustainable Communities grant application funded by Atlantic City Electric for $5,000 to purchase benches and amenities for the Leesburg Veterans Memorial Park. The committee also consented to a private-property motorcycle event request (Resolution No. 84-2026) and approved a change order to Arawak Paving Co., Inc. for the Estell Manor Road Phase V project (Resolution No. 85-2026), reducing installed quantities and adjusting the contract total to $168,172.26.
Following an engineer recommendation, the committee authorized submittal of NJDOT Municipal Aid and Bikeways grant applications for Estell Manor Road Phase 6 and Hunters Mill Road Bikeway Phase 2 and authorized the mayor and clerk to sign grant agreements (Resolutions Nos. 86-2026 and 87-2026).
The meeting record shows unanimous votes on the consent agenda and related resolutions. Committee members asked administration and professional staff to prepare the required documentation and to file the housing addendum and related materials with the court as required.
