Residents raise flooding concerns at Pinehurst monument; engineer to inspect

Resident Shari Perkins told the River Ridge Community Development District board on July 23 that, a week after a street drain was plugged, drainage problems persist and water has been overflowing in the triangle monument area near Pinehurst.

"The drainage issues persist; water has been overflowing in the triangle monument area," Perkins said, and she asked the Board to consider addressing the two drains on the left and right sides of the Pinehurst monument. Perkins relayed that resident Fred Kronke had emailed her that a retention pond draining between River 8 and River 9 appears non‑functional and is "nearly 1 foot above the drain," raising concerns about flooding.

District Engineer John Baker said the inlet was intentionally plugged to stop water from one system pushing into another, but that has left the water with "no place for the water to go" and is "akin to a very tiny pond in a pipe." He told the board that resolving the issue will "likely require additional study" and requested photographs or video to help staff diagnose the problem.

A board member asked whether there is video footage of water bubbling out of the drain; Perkins said she has several photographs and will obtain video and provide it to CDD staff. The Board directed the District Engineer to view the drainage firsthand.

The board did not take a final remedial vote at the meeting; staff and the engineer will study the drainage, and residents said they will provide photographic and video evidence to assist that review.
