Maurice River Township’s Committee approved a slate of routine administrative actions on June 15, including procurement and personnel authorizations, grant-submission procedures and a contract award for community fireworks.
By unanimous votes the committee: - Approved continuing with non-fair contracts for township professionals in 2027 (motion moved by Joe Sterling and seconded by Ben Stowman). - Authorized sending Municipal Clerk Denise L. Peterson to a two-day grant-writing training course (moved by Sterling, seconded by Stowman). - Granted the clerk authority to submit time-sensitive grant applications provided the clerk notifies the Township Committee and consults them if a local match is required (motion by Sterling, seconded by Stowman). - Awarded the fireworks contract for Family Night Out (July 9, 2026) to Serpico for $5,440 (moved by Sterling, seconded by Stowman). - Approved providing a $5,000 municipal match for an Atlantic City Electric grant application (motion by Sterling, seconded by Stowman).
The committee also scheduled preparatory and reorganization meetings — Prep Reorg on Dec. 14, 2026 at 5:30 p.m. and the 2027 Reorganization meeting on Jan. 4, 2027 at 10:00 a.m. — and instructed the solicitor to introduce several ordinances on the June 18 agenda: the 2026 Salary Ordinance, a no-parking ordinance (which will include certain county-owned causeway property after consultation with the County Solicitor), and an ordinance to exercise the USPS lease renewal option for the Delmont Building covering June 1, 2028 to May 31, 2033.
On food-truck licensing the committee discussed whether the municipal Peddler's license covers food trucks; Solicitor Justin White said the ordinance already addresses peddlers and that he would revise language after Fire Official Dave Smith explained that a state rule requiring inspection each time a truck moves is impractical if a truck remains stationary at an event.
The committee will take up adoption and ordinance introductions at its next meeting, scheduled for Thursday, June 18 at 7:30 p.m.
