The Commission of the Unified Government of Cusseta‑Chattahoochee County voted Feb. 4 to open a 2025 SPLOST bank account, approve a Local Maintenance and Improvement Grant (LMIG) scope change, reappoint three Planning & Zoning board members and create a Public Safety Director position.
Chairman Charles Coffey called the meeting to order at 9:00 a.m. and the board approved routine minutes. Commissioner Jason Frost moved to open the SPLOST bank account; Commissioner Timothy Biddle seconded and the vote was unanimous. The commission also approved changing LMIG funding from Riverbend Road to Friendship Road by unanimous vote. The board reappointed Randy Register, Teresa Smith and Willie Brown to the Planning & Zoning Board, each by unanimous roll call.
In a separate motion, the commission unanimously approved creation of a Public Safety Director position after a motion by Commissioner Gerald Douglas and second by Commissioner Biddle. The new position is a personnel‑level policy change; the commission did not provide job posting or salary details during the Feb. 4 meeting. An employee termination appeal listed on the agenda required no board action.
The board entered executive session at 6:11 p.m. to discuss legal matters and reconvened at 7:07 p.m.; Chairman Coffey said the matters discussed fell within the exceptions to the open‑meetings law and that no votes were taken during the closed session.
Actions taken at the Feb. 4 meeting are administrative and procedural; several approvals remain subject to the normal permitting and administrative steps overseen by county staff and the health department.
