Board accepts two retirements, approves hires and policy updates

The Union Township Board of Education accepted two retirements and approved a slate of personnel and policy changes at its Feb. 25, 2026 meeting.
By motion of President Lou Palma and second by Amelia Lamonde, the board accepted the retirement of school nurse Maria Prentice effective July 1, 2026, and the retirement of Health and Physical Education teacher John Veit effective July 1, 2026. The board also approved John Swon as a parent volunteer for the 2025–2026 school year and rescinded the previous appointment of Melissa Wlodarczyk as Jazz Band Director.
For extracurricular and hourly appointments the board approved Miguel Abreu as baseball coach at a stipend of $2,656.00 and Robert Frinzi as Jazz Band Director at a stipend of $1,150.50. The board approved Brooke Richards as a substitute teacher at the daily rate of $135; Wayne Golden as a home-instruction teacher at $50 per hour; and Lisa Bella as a bus aide at $30 per hour. These personnel items were presented by the Personnel Committee chaired by Christine Robitaille and approved on a roll-call vote recorded in the minutes.
The Policy Committee, also chaired by Christine Robitaille, reported revised and new policy work. The board approved new policies P1552 and R1552 (Sexual Harassment - Staff) which require two readings, and approved revised policy P0142.1 (Nepotism) and a note on the maximum allowable cost for independent educational evaluations pursuant to Policy 2468. The policy motion was moved by Christine Robitaille and seconded by Lou Palma and recorded as carried in the minutes with recorded yes votes and abstentions noted.
The minutes do not include verbatim statements from staff or detailed rationales for each personnel appointment. All personnel approvals were listed as recommended by the Chief School Administrator and are subject to standard criminal-background checks and emergent-hire application approvals where required.
