TDC hears engineering update on 500‑acre regional sports park and RC track plans

The county has expended a $750,000 state appropriation for the project and the TDC matched that $750,000 for engineering and associated costs; staff said they have filed reimbursement paperwork. Lighting and parking bids for the adjacent RC track have been awarded and bathrooms are complete, and staff said an inaugural race is planned for December.
Members asked about budgeted reserves and how funds are being dedicated. Staff explained $750,000 was dedicated from the most recent budget for engineering, with an additional $1.5 million proposed in the operating budget for future phases; an emergency reserve remains in place to cover a year of TDC operations if occupancy revenues fall. Staff said final cost estimates will come after engineering is complete and any larger allocations will be returned to the TDC and Board of County Commissioners for consideration.
Council members expressed support for the project and asked for future budget presentations; staff said a draft TDC budget would be presented in September with a final budget in November for BOCC approval.
